Child Labour not a problem here data reveals |

St Vincent and the Grenadines does not appear to have a significant child labuor problem. That is according to data revealed by the United States Department of Labour. The report however stated that children are found working in the agricultural sector here.
It noted that there are some gaps in the law which results in children being vulnerable to exploitation. The Department is suggesting that this country amend the Employment of Women, Young Persons, and Children Act to make 18 the minimum age for engaging in hazardous work.
The Department says there is also a need for a co-ordinating mechanism to combat the worst forms of child labor, particularly in agriculture.
It stated that policies should be implemented which will facilitate a rigorous study to assess whether the worst forms of child labor are indicative of a small problem or a hidden problem that requires further follow up.
It suggested that the information obtained from the study could be used for the development of a national plan of action to address the worst forms of child labor, particularly for children in agriculture.
And in the area of social programs, the US Labor Department recommended that this country conduct an assessment of the impact that existing programs may have on addressing the worst forms of child labor.
